SDG 17.8 Expired in 2017. What’s Next?


The conversations around the SDGs for the past two years have been on just the 17 goals. It is only on few occasions that you would hear the mentioning of some of the targets between these goals as well as its accompanied indicators. It is very important to note that most of the targets are to be met before the overall expiration date of 2030. It is therefore important to note which of the targets have expired.

In a quick check, Goal 17 came out strongly.

Partnership in Goal 17 means we are all in this together. Goal 17 target 8 (17.8) which has expired, states that;

Fully operationalize the technology bank and science, technology and innovation capacity- building mechanism for least developed countries by 2017 and enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology

Every target of the goals is accompanied by an indicator to help measure the success. Hence, the indicator for the above stated target is;


17.8.1 Proportion of individuals using the Internet
