IMMEDIATE RELEASE : COMMEMORATION OF AFRICA YOUTH DAY, Tuesday November 1, 2016, Accra Ghana

Youth Advocates Ghana (YAG) under the Voice Africa`s Future initiative wish to congratulate and salute African Youth, the Ghanaian Youth in particular for the commemoration of the Africa Youth Day, 2016. As we mark this special day with Panel Discussion on agenda 2063 and the Global Goals at Central University, Accra under the theme “Agenda2063, the Ghana we want and youth unemployment”, we call to the attention of the Government of Ghana, the African Union, the United Nations and the other development partners the urgency to show us “ACTIONS” not just commitment to address high rate of youth unemployment in Ghana. In Ghana, youth between the ages of 15-35 years constitute about 33.2 per cent of Ghana`s population of 25 million (2010 Population and Housing Census Report). Based on these figures Ghanaian youth constitute about a third of the population, while almost one out of every four people in Ghana was reported to be aged 20–35 years.
The World Bank in its latest report dubbed the “Landscape of Jobs in Ghana,” revealed that about 48 percent of the youth in the Country, who are between 15-24 years do not have jobs. This alarming statistics of youth who remain unemployed pose a danger to our national security. Youth Advocates Ghana (YAG) on this occasion entreats the Government of Ghana, Africa Union and development partners and Organizations to:
Ensure Youth development is mainstreamed across all aspects of the national development plans. Also,
Increase business support and financial services for youth startups and digital entrepreneurship initiatives to create decent jobs and Provide basic business skills like planning, marketing, accounting and negotiating skills to informal sector workers with focus on rural SMEs including Agribusines

Thank you.
