Medical Reformist & 2030 Youth Alliance Host Youth SDGs Policy Roundtable in Cuba

The Medical Reformist , an organization of young African medical professionals on the island of Cuba collaborated with the 2030 Youth Alliance and the Secretariat of the African Youth SDGs Summit to host the Youth SDG Policy Roundtable. The event took place on Monday, 15th April 2019 at the Julio Antonio International Camp in Artemisa, Cuba and brought together over 138 participants from 27 countries. Cuba is a home to many international students in various fields of study, where youth-led initiatives and Youth leadership are a priority for integral social development. Anna Lemmenmeier reviewed Ghana’s most popular food program_ Operation Feed Yourself (OFY) under Colonel Ignatius Kutu Acheampong and his National Redemption Council (NRC) launched in February 1972. The main aim of the program was to make Ghana self-sufficient in food supply. This is a program that can work again not just in Ghana but also almost everywhere in the world. According to National Geographic Magazine , by 2050 we will need to feed two billion more people. Now, the question is about how those two billion more people would be fed. If people are to continue on the current trend of cultivating more farm lands, definitely there would be depletion of natural resources, including the soils and water and natural ecosystems because we have to produce more food. 5 Things You Can do to Support the SDGs in this Festive Season

The SDGs is a comprehensive and complicated development agenda which shall require daily conscious steps to be able to make progress. Christmas is here again, people are making many plans to celebrate such a festive season. In fact, celebration and enjoyment is very important as it contributes to the health and well being of people and that has been well captured in Goal 3 of the SDGs. But such enjoyment or celebration must be sustainable. The celebration or employment should not jeopardize the future. Save Food We eat everyday but this kind of season is always special so what we can do is to try and freeze fresh produce and leftovers if you don’t have the chance to eat them before they go bad. African Youth Propose the Creation of "African Youth SDGs Fund"

In September 2017 the United Nations celebrated two years of the SDGs and since the adoption of a global agenda of this nature, there have been a lot of movements around the Goals as well as awareness creation. If you look at how ambitious the Goals are, it becomes very clear that there are more to be done at all levels and such responsibility is a collective one. In fact, the SDGs has a principle of leaving no one behind with much emphasis on persons living with disability, young people and women. Again, there is a growing global interest in enabling youth participation in decision-making at all levels. According to the African Youth Decade Plan of Action, May 2011, over 60% of Africa's population are young men and women under the age 35. Emmanuel Clifford Gyetuah participated in the Building Bridges Toolkit Development Workshop on Peace Education and Dialogue which took place in Medan, Indonesia from 14th to 21st April 2019. Building Bridges is a Global project with the aim of promoting peace education and dialogue through youth work in developing countries and in Europe by initiating a cross continental approach. The project is Coordinated by International Falcon Movement - Socialist Educational International & Elix with Youth Advocates Ghana-YAG as one of the 6 global implementing partners with Co -Funding from the European Commission 's Erasmus+ Program .
